On Saturday, 6 October 2018, anti human trafficking walk was held at the Blue Lagoon, Durban to create an awareness on this atrocity. Politicians, NPO’s, NGO’s, Faith Based Institutions, Government Sectors  attended by about ±1500 people, including celebrities and other human trafficking activists such as Grizelda Grootboom.

When it comes to the very real issue of human trafficking, awareness, education and prevention are key. There are many misconceptions regarding human trafficking that are important to dispel. This isn’t a problem existing only within big cities. While we all want to believe that this isn’t happening right under our noses, there are many of victims trafficked in Durban and South Africa.

Grizelda Grootboom, a survivor of human trafficking also spoke at the event, highlighted the need for awareness. She challenged the people to become proactive in combating human trafficking.

The recent abduction of children and the constant increase of missing children in South Africa is concerning according to Member of the African Christian Democratic Party Jameel Essop. Miquel Louw is just one sad incident and believes more is needed to be done by government especially SAPS to ensure the safety of children & women.
